Bharatanatyam Lessons
Classes at KDA focuses on teaching aspects of Nritta, Nritya and Natya. Students from the age of 5 are groomed through basic body exercises and Bharatanatyam adavus(steps), followed by grasping subtle nuances of dancing, performances. They grow into beautiful dancers and rounded individuals as they go on to accomplish graduation recital from the basic level of learning- "Rangapravesham/Arangetram" and continue to pursue advanced level in Bharatanatyam.
Tala Fitness - "Fitness through rhythm" - Dance Session for Ladies
In the 18th year of KDA, dance sessions was offered for ladies. "Tala fitness - fitness through rhythm". This is a combination of dance, yoga and exercises, focussed on training the body and mind to improve strength, agility, flexibility and fitness for all ages.
Bharatanatyam Rangapravesham
Students progressing towards graduation are given guidance and orientation - Rangapravesham (Arangetram), the maiden Bhatratanatyam recital. Rangapravesham symbolizes graduation in basic learning in order to progress towards advanced levels. Being the first full fledged dance recital, a student goes through rigorous training for months culminating in stage performance. Usually preceded by rehearsals with accompanying musicians and nattuvanar(usually the Guru), Rangapravesham is the beginning point for a student as a Bharatanatyam performer.
Mohiniyattam and Other genres
Mohiniyattam is a popular classical dance form of India known for its swinging and swaying movements showcasing the Kerala tradition of dancing which includes Kathakali and Kootiyattam. Students at KDA get opportunities to learn Mohinattam and other genres like semi-classical, folk and fusion dances in order to explore possibilities in dancing and experience varied styles.

What is Classical Dance?
In simple terms, Classical Dance is a dance form which has a definite structure and character in its movements and expressions which have evolved through time. A particular classical dance form is defined by the nature of body movements, way of expressing emotions, resulting in a flawless blend of technical perfection and subtle nuances. Like a foundation is to a building, classical dance is to a repertoire of a dancer. Classical Dance is also a part of the culture it belongs to and closely interconnected with history, music and also literature if it is accompanied by vocal music. India has eight Recognized Classical Dance forms with distinct characteristics, Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam being two of them.
Is it a good idea to learn Classical Dance?
Learning Classical Dance is good for the body and more importantly mind as it requires discipline and determination. Being a cognitive science, it also enriches the life of a student in many ways, develops confidence, social skills, team skills, to name a few. As a student progresses to learn, he/she learns to focus on the coordination of body and mind in the most beautiful manner thereby sharpening physical and mental abilities. Learning classical dance is also to identify the unwritten dos and don'ts in classical dance. Therefore a learned Guru(holistic mentor) is imperative to learning Classical Dance, facilitating overall character development of the student.

Bharatanatyam is a classical dance form of present-day India, characterized by fast and crisp movements. Originated thousands of years ago and known by various names, it has evolved over time. Even though evolved, its soul and the language it conveys stays the same with few variations (or bani). Thanks to the efforts and pain taken by legendary dancers, connoisseurs including Kings (or Rajas), instructors and enthusiasts, it has reached the present day status as one of the best performing arts on stage for both female and male dancers, offering endless possibilities to dancers to showcase their talent irrespective of their age, creed, color or nationality.
